Artist Bio
Melinda Laz specializes in hand-built ceramics, works on paper and printmaking. Much of her work explores narrative and draws inspiration from vintage family photographs, roots, trees and shadows. In her art, she contemplates ideas surrounding shifting memory and nostalgia, the passage of time, personal identity and home. Her small-scale works are highly textured, intimate, and precious. She often uses muted colors and black paint washes over low fire ceramics that suggest the viewer look closely and connect on a personal or emotional level. A printmaker by training, Melinda began working in ceramics in 2015.
Melinda holds a BFA from Washington University in St. Louis, and MAs from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Denver. Throughout the last 20 years she has appeared in numerous national juried and invitational shows. She is a former resident artist at Valkarie Gallery in Lakewood, CO. She taught elementary art in Denver area schools for nine years and now works in museum education. She lives in Golden, CO with her family.
